Inspired by My Grandma: Advocating for RPM as a Sales Operations Analyst
As a Sales Operations Analyst at Rimidi, I am deeply motivated by my grandma’s challenges in managing her blood pressure. Her experiences have opened my eyes to the importance of Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM), and I am passionate about spreading the word about its benefits.
Historically, my grandma has relied on a traditional blood pressure device and handwritten notes to keep track of her readings. However, this method has its flaws. If she lost her notebook, all the crucial health data she carefully recorded would be gone, leaving her and her healthcare providers without a complete picture of her blood pressure trends.
A particularly scary incident highlighted these shortcomings. One evening, my grandma had a few cocktails, which messed with her blood pressure medication. The next day, her blood pressure spiked dangerously high. To note, she was not taking her medication consistently at the same time every day and was not checking her blood pressure often enough to get reliable readings. As a result, her blood pressure reached a critical point and my mom had to call an ambulance. Thankfully, the paramedics stabilized her, but it was clear that she needed a better way to manage her blood pressure.
This crisis showed me how much RPM could have helped her. With RPM, her doctors would have had real-time data to monitor her blood pressure trends closely and catch any issues early. Additionally, they could have adjusted her medication before things got out of hand.
Further, RPM also helps with medication adherence. Automated reminders and real-time monitoring could have helped my grandma take her medication consistently, reducing the risk of dangerous spikes in her blood pressure. Real-time data from RPM would have helped her doctors understand how lifestyle factors, like her occasional cocktails, affected her blood pressure, leading to more personalized care.
Lastly, RPM provides accurate and timely data during emergencies. In my grandma’s case, the ambulance crew could potentially have accessed her blood pressure history immediately, allowing them to make better decisions during the crisis. This access to historical data could be lifesaving, especially in urgent situations.
Seeing my grandma’s struggles has been a huge motivator for me at Rimidi. Her experience highlights how powerful RPM can be in modern healthcare because it makes things more convenient and significantly improves patient safety and outcomes. Moreover, RPM bridges the gap between patients and healthcare providers, ensuring timely interventions and personalized care.
In conclusion, throughout my internship, I have become deeply passionate about the healthcare technology industry and am committed to raising awareness about the benefits of RPM. I want to educate healthcare providers and patients on how RPM can improve health outcomes and quality of life. Through my work, I aim to contribute to the growth of RPM, making sure others do not face the same challenges my grandma did.
