Meet Catriona Tarto, VP of Technology.
Tell me about yourself.
I have been with Rimidi for over four years, thriving in the fast-paced environment of a digital healthcare startup. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling—I have visited over 30 countries—and experimenting with cooking and baking dishes from around the world. Additionally, I am fluent in French and English, and I am currently working on improving my German skills.
What do you like most about the work we do here?
I am drawn to Rimidi's approach of enhancing patient-physician connections and providing remote clinical decision support. Our willingness to tackle challenges head-on and stay ahead in the digital healthcare field is something I value. Further, working with FHIR is enjoyable, and I appreciate our patient-focused mindset. It is motivating to see everyone in the company striving to directly improve patients' experiences.
What do you like about our company culture?
At our company, there is a genuine sense of camaraderie and support among team members. We operate as a cohesive unit, always ready to lend a hand to one another. I appreciate the collaborative environment where everyone can contribute and influence our product or processes. It is empowering to see how we encourage internal growth and development within the company.
In a few details, what is your favorite part of your job?
My role involves overseeing the tech aspects of our operations, which is exciting because it allows me to collaborate with various teams across the company. I find satisfaction in tackling complex challenges and devising strategies to enhance our platform.
Which company values resonate with you?
All our company values hold immense significance for me, but if I were to pick one, it would be "collaboration." I firmly believe that our product's success and our position at the forefront of technology are a result of how effectively our teams work together. Every individual in our company plays a pivotal role in driving our performance, and I strongly advocate for the notion that great ideas can come from anyone within our organization. Internally, collaboration is key, but it's equally crucial to engage with our clients to shape our product positively. We rely on their insights to make a tangible impact on healthcare.
Also, "diversity" is another core value that deeply resonates with me. Our team comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds, each bringing a unique set of experiences to the table. This diversity fosters increased collaboration and a deeper understanding of how we can collectively contribute to making a positive impact on healthcare.
What motivates you?
Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the challenges my mom faced with severe asthma. Nights spent in hospitals were not uncommon, and from a young age, I took on the responsibility of helping with her patient paperwork, managing medications, and understanding her medical history. Our home resembled a mini pulmonary office with an abundance of medical equipment at our disposal— inhalers, pulse oximeters, nebulizers, and more. Seeing my mom's struggles fueled my passion for healthcare. Despite her adeptness at managing her asthma independently, I recognized the gaps in our medical system.
Further, more recently, my grandmother's experience highlighted another glaring issue. After her doctor discontinued her hypertension medication due to high sodium levels, there was no means for her physician to monitor her progress effectively. Weeks later, she suffered from untreated high blood pressure, leading to hospitalization with stroke-like symptoms. Fortunately, prompt intervention stabilized her condition, but it showed the need for continuous patient care and better clinician oversight.
Both situations underscored the gaps in patient management within our healthcare system, prompting my appreciation for Rimidi's patient-focused solutions. With our platform, both my family members and their clinicians could have benefited significantly. Remote monitoring and proactive care management could have averted hospital visits and provided timely interventions, improving overall patient outcomes.
What is your favorite part of working at our company?
Two aspects of my work that I enjoy most are collaborating with my coworkers and contributing to positive changes in healthcare. The diversity of backgrounds and experiences among my colleagues at Rimidi makes working together incredibly enriching. Each person brings something unique to the table, which has not only helped me grow as a leader but also ensures that I'm constantly learning from my teammates. Additionally, our collective focus on improving healthcare is deeply rewarding. With a background in healthcare myself, I love being able to use my skills to make a difference, even in a digital context.
