Diabetes Alert Day 2022

News | March 21st, 2022

This Tuesday, March 22, 2022, is the American Diabetes Association Diabetes Alert Day. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases, Diabetes Alert Day is a one-day “wake-up call” focused on the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of understanding your risk.

Diabetes is currently one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. today, and over 37 million people in the U.S. are living with diabetes. Furthermore, roughly 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year, which can lead to devastating complications, such as heart disease, nerve damage, blindness, kidney failure and amputations if left untreated.

As a result, it is critical for patients to understand the importance of screening for diabetes, and empowering them to communicate with providers to take the right steps to manage diabetes, if diagnosed.

Turning to Remote Patient Monitoring to Manage Diabetes

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is one of the best tools in the toolbox that we have for effectively managing diabetes. Using RPM, providers have the ability to collect vital patient health data – such as blood pressure, weight, and blood sugar levels – and to track those trends over time, thus allowing them to better understand trends and adjust patient treatments and behaviors as needed to achieve better outcomes.

This is where Rimidi comes in. Founded in 2012 with the goal of re-engineering managing Type 2 Diabetes, our diabetes view, which combines patient-generated data from devices like glucometers, CGMs, and blood pressure cuffs with relevant data from EHRs, has successfully helped providers get a more holistic view of their patients’ health, adjust treatment plans when necessary, and ultimately improve outcomes.

Building on this further, Rimidi’s RPM solution now encompasses multiple use cases and disease states that are often comorbid with Type 2 Diabetes, including heart failure, fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disease/hypertension and more. The solution seamlessly integrates into clinical workflows, and combines patient-generated data from connected devices and patient surveys with relevant clinical data from the EHRs for each disease state.

One recent example of Rimidi’s RPM solution improving patient outcomes for patients with diabetes is through our work with Leon Medical Centers. The outpatient medical care institution in Miami-Dade County found that Rimidi’s remote patient monitoring program helped lower A1c levels below 9% for 84% of their high-risk diabetes patients – a key indicator of better diabetes control.

This Diabetes Alert Day, we encourage patients to take the ADA Diabetes Risk Test, and talk to their provider about ways to prevent or properly manage diabetes.
